Weird connection problem

Oh, by the way!
To make this more interesting :-/

I saw this behavior on a Linux machine (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) using Python 2.7.6 if I do the same exercise 
on a Mac OS X machine also with Python 2.7.6 - no problem what so ever.
