Writing to a file

I appreciate you all taking the time to answer my question.  
These were the types of things I was needing to hear.

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused by using a 
relative file path with the '~'…  I was typing from 
memory and didn't think about it beforehand.

Eryksun, thank you for the info about the 'with open' 
syntax.  This looks very helpful!

And thanks Greg and Steven for the analogy… that made a lot 
of sense and got straight to the point.
