Linux:

Fre, open source. If you don't want to install that bloated mess on a 
box (I sympathise), and you can grab a vmware vinux or a live cd or

OSX:
OSX comes built in with Voiceover, just hold down the command key and 
hit F5. Use the same keystroke to turn it off.
