Eurosymbol in xml document

Hi,
thanks to all of you who have sent me helpful information.

I'm diving into the secrets of unicode.

It seems the crucial point was, that seemingly during the installation 
of the programming environment eric the file
*** /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/sitecustomize.py ***
has been modified.
I found that file mentioned in the excellent online book 'Diving into 
python'
