parallel port programming using Python?

Hi I see that you placed a post on http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-list/1999-November/015112.html in 1999 and I was wondering if you had any progress with the whole robot/python project?  I am trying to learn Python myself and control motors and looking for some insight. Hope you can help.
