You're misinterpreting lack of time (or itches that need scratching by the
people willing to do the work) for hostility.  Lest you think that there is
no activity on bugs, scan the python-checkins mailing list archive:

    http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-checkins/

Grepping through the January mbox archive I see 96 different bug ids
mentioned in the checkins.  For December I see 116 different ids.  I could
go back farther, but I'll let you do that.
