On Ubuntu, I have tried 3.3.4, 3.4.3 and 4.0. Compile and make test ran successfully with all three. For my benchmark, platform, and compiler options, 3.4.3 was the fastest by approximately 2%. I would normally use the default compiler for your distribution. casevh
