A short explanation using a standard python list to hold the instances 
of Tkinter Buttons:

buttonlist = []

for a in range(10):
     b = Tkinter.Button(root, text=a)
     b.pack()
     buttonlist.append(b)

....
later
....


print buttonlist[2]["text"]
