Newbe - Error starting Python

#- I am new to Python. When I tried to start it on my Suse 9.1 
#- system I got a KDEesktop message that said: Service 
#- 'searchproviders/python. Desktop is malformatted.
#- What is this and how can I fix it? TIA

What happens if you open a terminal and type "python"?
