If you ask me, aliased fonts are better for coding. Gtk+ layer could be added to Idle as an *optional* UI layer, so that idle could be distributed with python without any fear of dependencies (tkinter is enough for platforms like windows, ...) May be you could contribute code to the idle guys :)
