Why return None?

It can be amusing, in a sadistic sort of way, to watch you attempt to
nail to the floor every protruding flabby piece of argument, no matter
how peripheral or repetitious.  It's not *always* as edifying as other
ways you could spend your time, though...

But I do see the temptation :-/
