timer events and how to continue after an exception

Hi,

surprisingly I didn't find a way to set a timer event
which raise(s) an exception after some elapsed time.

And generally if I catch an exception (like a timer
exception) how can I continue with the 'instruction'
stream which was active when the timer interrupted
the stream?
