Somone asked me in e-mail, but I deleted the e-mail (sorry for
mangling the question), "How does Dell sell Linux-based servers,
then?"

Good question... It might have something to do with recent scrutiny 
from the US court system. In honesty, I don't know that this is
currently actually what happens with notebooks, but it's certainly how
it used to be. Inertia could be doing the rest.
