Extend with Java/Printing?

Is it possible to extend python to use Java?

I found "pyJava", just seems like nothing's
been done with it in quite awhile.

Is this the only option?

The reason behind this, is I'm trying to find
a report generator/printer routines for use in
python and so far the only software I'm coming up
with seem to be Java related, ie. JFreeReport.
I want to print direct to the printer from my applications
and not to a PDF.
