As with a lot of Python extensions, there is no "official" wrapper ;)

Sourceforge is currently down, but a friend of mine has a freetype2 wrapper 
project there. I may be thinking of PyFT - which, BTW, I found quite usable 
when I used it two years ago :)

See also pygame, which wraps SDL_ttf, which uses freetype 2.0+

On that note, Anthony Baxter has just developed support for accessing fonts 
through the x11 lib conf and windows font conf - see the recent posts on the 
pygame mailing list.
