Why functional Python matters

Can anyone point me to a discussion of Python's scoping system vs.
Scheme-like lexical scoping?  I'd like to know if people find Python's
scoping more intuitive or what.  I know Guido once mentioned it was
because he thought it might encourage a lot of nesting, but now
"nested scopes" have made its way into the language.
