just one addition:

>     Python could work with COM.

Python is the best COM-Client development tool I met. Together with PyCrust 
(Part of wxPython) developing COM-Client Application becomes a charme. 
Pythons interacte shell (duplicated in PyCrust) allows you to test loops, 
exceptions, Lists (=Arrays) communicating with COM-Servers like Excel or 
Word.

Pythons COMability really SAVED MY ASS in a big COM-project.
