[Q] can PySerial work with a USB to serial adapter ?

Hello python minded,
I'm trying to use PySerial with Python 2.2.2 on an XP system
with a USB to RS232 adapter.
Upon opening the port (making an instance of the Serial class)
the system return the error message "unable to open file",
thereby referring to the COM1 port used.

Is it ME who's goofing thing up or what?
