Gerhard,

I managed to get things going by using rpm with the flags "-ivh --nodeps".
I'm beginning to wonder if OpenSLL was installed in a way that it is not
registered in the rpm database.  Python2 runs fine so it is able to find the
symlinks that I created.  Perhaps it's a SuSE Linux/yast2 thing.
