If you only want to search for keywords, take a look at
http://starship.python.net/crew/theller/pyhelp.cgi.
This was inspired by the keyword search in htmlhelp,
and you can also install it locally.

Mark Hammond has written a sidebar for Mozilla, which also uses this:
