Sorry, I didn't see the original post, so I'm just going to comment on the
subject line:

If you don't know about mxCGIPython, you should check it out:

It took a little work to get it up and running on my ISP.  They were
completely uninterested in installing Python, but that didn't stop me.
Here's a thread on c.l.py in which M.A. Lemburg helped me get it running:
