def f(url):
    	return 'lists.' + re.sub('^www.\.','',url)

Testing it: 
>>> f('domain1.com')
'lists.domain1.com'
>>> f('www.domain.com')
'lists.domain.com'

Maybe better pattern possible, but too lazy now :p
