calling a java application result into Python (JPE???)

Thanks for the help.  I ended up using os.chdir(path) instead of os.path and that worked.  However, I was never able to get the java program to get its result into Python (I ended up solving my
problem in a completely unrelated way).

As a more academic question, (and since my solution may not cover all the bases so I may have to revisit this) how do you call a Java application and return the result into Python.  I saw the
Java-Python Extension, but I could not figure out how to get started.  Thanks.
