DSN question

Is there a way to programmatically create a DSN?

I'm trying to create a program that connects to a MS SQL database
using the mxODBC package.  However, I don't necessarily want to
subject the users of the program to the task of manually creating a
DSN.  It seems to me that there should be some way to do it
programmatically, but I haven't been able to locate and documentation
on it.

Any information relating to this subject would be quite helpful.
