python interacting with other programs

Doing this has less to do with Python, and more to do with COM.  As such,
you should look at the COM interface exposed by Lotus Notes.  A good way to
do this is to use the Python Makepy utility.  You can also use an object
browser (of which there is one included w/ the VBA in Word or whatnot).
