VisAD/Jython or PyOpenGL for 2D/3D cellular automata?

PyOpenGL nowdays is a very stable version (2.0.0.44).
I make 2 or 3 full programs with PyOpenGL (and PyQt).
My unique warning is: "PyOpenGL is tooooooooooooo
slow".
