Tkinter.Image??

Hi Everyone,
  I'm kind of confused.  Tkinter has a class called Image; I read that
it can be used to display .png, .jpg, etc.  Is the Tkinter.Image class
the same as the PIL Image Class?  If not, what's the difference?  I
tried finding documentation on this but I couldn't...does anyone know
where I can find documentation on Tkinter.Image?
