History of 'self' and why not at least 'my'?

Why not just bind an unused key (alt-s, ctrl-c s, or f3 are handy candidates
in emacs) (or a used one you never use), to insert 'self' or maybe 'self.' at
the cursor? Actually f3 would be better for inserting something harder to
type and less common, like 'def __init__(self, ' (i don't like underscores
=). The point is, approch programming like programmers, and make the editor
do the things you like the least (and/or do extremely often) for you :)
