Tk 8.4a3 & Tkinter - multiple file selection in tk_getOpenFile

I'd like to use the multiple file selection ability of tk_getOpenFile
in Tk 8.4a3 with Tkinter and Python 2.2 running on Windows.  What is
the least amount of change to the standard 2.2 distribution which
would enable this?

If anyone knows of a better (or even uglier but easier) way to do
multiple file selection, that information would also be appreciated.
