Need registry editing guidance

Have Python 1.5 and win32all

Are there any examples for reading and writing registry entries?

Note1: I may be adding a very long string but I understand that there may be
a size limitation for a string value built into the registry.  I would add
it as a binary value but it looks as though win32api only allows you to
write string values.

Any thoughts or insights?

Note2: Downloading another registry manipulation module is not an option.
