With regard to team programming and 'k':

The team of authors of Extreme Programming Applied put it this way:
pair programmers should work like a car rally pair: one drives while
the other navigates.  More concretely, one types while the other plans
ahead (rather than sit and do nothing).  The difference from rally
pairs is that programming partners trade roles and even partners.  I
think they would claim that K > 2, at least over a product life
cycles, but it would be interesting to see some data.
