Cannot import zlib?

Hi there guys,
    I'm trying to get a python script, archivemail to work.  I'm using
slackware 8.0 with Python 2.2.2 installed.  When the program runs, it
complains "ImportError: No module named zlib".  This is curious since it is
supposed to come with the Python source correct?  I compiled from scratch so
should it not be there?  How can I resolve this?
