This is difficult to answer without a bit of context.
What is your goal? What are you trying to accomplish?
If you want to be a systems programmer, I'd recommend a really light
introduction into procedural coding, followed by learning C.
If you want to be a database programmer, I'd recommend learning SQL.
If you want to write GUI programs, then a high level language (eg Python or
Ruby) and a good toolkit (eg Qt) are a great place to start.
If you want to be a mechanical or civil engineer, I'd recommend learning a
really high level language, like Matlab or Octave.
Can you clarify what you need to do, and why you want to learn to program?
