I am catching this thread in mid-air and somebody may already have made 
this point:

Ada Augusta Lovelace, Byron's daughter and Babbage's friend, was the 
first programmer and also a woman.

Grace Hopper, the inventor of Cobol, was a woman (and also a 
rear-admiral, talk about overcoming two sexist bastions...).
