chopping csv-files (newbie)

First rule is - don't re-invent the wheel.

You might suppose that you aren't the first person to need to parse CSV
files. A quick search at Parnassus (<http://www.vex.net/parnassus/>) would
prove you correct.

I have used a couple of the modules that you find here. Dave Cole's CSV is
faster, being in C. Laurence Tratt's ASV module is in pure Python. Both work
just fine.
