XML and Python

i am just starting my venture into XML as a means of document output and
soon as a form of internet protocols. and i would like to know how i can
parse XML in Python? now i know i have access to SAX and DOM, but how do i
use them? i have looked into the documentation, and it seems to be written
in a martian language, and i am looking in doing basic stuff just regular
nodes, in particular. any link/sample usage just anything to get my feet wet
in this subject, im a decent Python programmer, so there shouldnt be too
much problems, just need something i can work with.

any help would greatly be appreciated.
