hacking

I would like to thank you for your information regarding helpful books on programming.  i would really appreciate it if you could help me with one more question.?? 
i would like to know how other users can hack into your computer while your online, is there any books out there on this subject that would it explain it to me, and how i can prevent them from doing so.
