python software deployment.

Has anybody had to deal with the issue of deploying a Python (Win32)
application across multiple PCs in multiple locations ?  If so, do
you have any advice on making this as painless a process as possible.
I guess that creating .exe's for a one-click installation is the
first step, but what about future upgrades/bug-fixes to your application ?
Whilst there seem to be several solutions for Java software deployment
(and Java lends itself to auto-updates), what's the state of the art
for Python, if any ?
