"... energy minimizing ..." in a general sense, I
think it should be noted. Rayleigh-Ritz finds
extrema on finite-dimensional subspaces or mani-
folds. It's generally presented in terms of
variational calculus. Rayleigh-Ritz, as opposed
simply to Ritz, typically indicates an interest
in eigenvalues, often of physically-germane par-
tail differential equations.
Python's a worthy vehicle for such work.
