Installation Problem

I have a colleague who is trying to install python on 
a solaris 2.6 box and he is getting errors when trying to
make the software:

this is the Python/Tk error if its any help.

When editing the /Modules/Setup file in python version 2.1 and then going 
up a directory and doing a make Makefile, followed by a make i get the 
following error.
 
/opt/exp/gnu/sparc-sun-solaris2.4/bin/ld: cannot open
-l/sopt/perl/python/tcltk/lib/tk8.3: No such file or directory.
 
However i have chmod -R 775 tcltk directory. The file does exist and has rwx
permissions.
 
can anyone help?
