client side scripting

is it possible to write python scripts embedded in HTML-tags to run on
the web-client in whatever browser  (netscape, ie, ..), like javascript
or java-applets or is there a project trying to solve these problems?
basically, i want to know if, when learning Python, i'll be able to
program in Python without using another language (CGI-server side
scripting, ordinary scripts portable on most platforms and client-side
scripting). Users should be able to use their own webbrowsers and
shouldn't be downloading GRAIL whenever they want to use a client-side
python script.
