mxODBC on Windows 2000?

It's not limited to ActivePython: I get the same (non) result under IDLE 
and the command line. I'm seeing it fail under Win2000 and Win98.

The reason I ask is because every time I try to execute a SQL command, 
the CPU usage goes up to 100% on my machine and the python shell is 
locked up.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.
