I'm sorry, though not surprised, to hear that.  I have been using
Python since 1.4 and I just wanted to add my opinion to offset the
negative ones in this thread.  

I think that the growth the language has seen has been fabulous and I
have always looked forward to the next release as the changes have
always addressed problems I've had with the language (augmented
assignment being one of the front runners in this).  I look forward
still to the next release.

I regularly read the list of active PEPs.  Some of them I am
ambivalent about (Sets, outer-product, non-integer division) and some
of them I am really excited about (unification of integers,
rationals, unification of types and classes, iterators, generators).
I do have some fears about some of them (interfaces, adaptation, and
some parts of the class/type unification), but I can see huge
advantages to them being accepted and have faith in the developers to
make the right decision.

I think Python is the best high level language out there and I feel
that every revision has been better than its predecessor.  Please keep
up the good work.
