Language Shootout

This strikes me as a thoughtfully done
set of benchmarks.

Now, if the rest of us can be thoughtful
as well in our USE of this information...

e.g., understanding: that "fast enough" is
enough; that speed and flexibility of
development is often more important than
whether a language has raw speed; that read-
ability and maintainability is often an im-
portant consideration; that the existance of
rich libraries and third-party functional
modules can be vastly more important than
running the Sieve of Eratosthenes 100 times
faster.

Finding a way, however subjective, to rate
THESE considerations would be an important
addition to any "language shootout," so
important as to be a necessity, I believe.

That said, I still enjoy reading benchmarks!
