win32com not working as advertised

i'm running ActivePython 2.0, and whenever i
attempt to run makepy.py or combrowse.py i get
"python has performed an illegal operation..."
and all my pc's memory has been eaten up (i get
"there is not memory to run this application..."
after python crashes).

on the odd occasion that makepy dosen't crash, it
generates filenames silimilar to:

EAB22AC0-30C1-11CF-A7EB-0000C05BAE0Bx0x1x1.py

the "x0x1x1" doesn't look right.

has anyone had similiar experiences? and if so,
what if any solution is there?
