Python vs. PHP (& Java?)

Rasmus started PHP to do a small, local job, and
he's consistently been very modest about PHP's
semantic depth.

However, I'm EXTREMELY reluctant to support the
data for which you seem to seek ratification, let
alone the conclusion.  GNU didn't choose Python
for Mailman; Mailman people choose Python, and GNU
insiders went along (and even that abbreviates the
story).  O'Reilly hasn't published a book on
Smalltalk, but I know of no one who denies that a
lot of design went into Smalltalk.  Anyway, ORA
published *PHP Pocket Reference* almost a year ago.

PHP doesn't scale as well as Python, in several
respects.  There's no facile proof of that that I
know, though; it's not a superficial result access-
ible through glib circumstantial evidence.
