The compilation directive
<%@LANGUAGE=FOO%>
must be the first line of the ASP script (even before any HTML). Using
Python or not has nothing to do with it.
Your page should look like :
><%@ LANGUAGE = Python%>
><html>
><head></head>
><body>
><h1>Querying database</h1>
><%
>text="abc"
>%>
><%= text%>
></body>
></html>
