uuencode help

I'm trying to use the uu module to encode binaries that can then be sent to
an nntp server. However, when I try to decode these posts with slrn, they
fail to decode. I've noticed that where uu.encode uses a space, the
standard unix uuencode uses back ticks (`), though this may not be the only
difference.

Does anyone know what's going on here? If the back tick is the only
difference, I suppose I can do a character replacement.

Thanks
Dave Cook
