Debian-package of Python 1.6?

This is not true.  The Python 1.6 and 2.0 licenses meet the
Debian Free Software Guidelines (DFSG) and as thus Debian can be
include it in the main distribution.  Python 1.6 will probably
not show up in Debian because no one except for CNRI's management
really cares about it.  The next release of Debian (codename
Woody) will almost certainly ship with Python 2.0.  Python 1.6
was basicly DOA.

BTW, the only problem RMS has with the new Python license is that
his lawyer believes it is not compatible with the GPL due to a
legal technicality.  AFAIK, the effect of this incompatiblity is
that Python cannot be staticly linked with GPLed code (except of
course if the author of the GPLed code gives explicit
permission).

How boring would our lives be without lawyers?  It boggles the
mind. :)
