Compilation question

I just have a real quick compilation question.

If I'm trying to compile Python 2.0 for a RedHat 6.2 distribution, how
do I add the neat tcsh-style actions in the python interpreter?

What I mean is if I invoke python at the command prompt to get into to
an interactive Python session, how do I use the arrow keys while in the
session without getting escape characters?
